Who's a Malabrigo Fan?

Almost 15 years ago, Kelly and I opened Yarnology with fingers crossed and hearts pounding. Also almost 15 years ago, we placed our initial order with Malabrigo Yarns in Uruguay. Both were strokes of genius.

Yep. I'm going to admit that it was genius to open a yarn shop in a college town located on a beautiful bend in the Mississippi River.

But it was truly brilliant to include Malabrigo's beautiful yarns in the mix (thanks, Kelly). Malabrigo is one of a small handful of yarns that we carried originally and continue to stock now. We've gotten a whole lot pickier about which companies we'll represent. To make the cut, a company must make beautiful and high quality goods, be kind to us and to their people, and also be reliable, honest, and fun to work with. But regardless of how long the list is, Malabrigo continues to check all the boxes.

I will never forget receiving our first yarn shipment from this lovely company. Opening the box felt like entering a magical other-world. The colors and textures of the yarns were unlike any I'd ever seen...and they took by breath away. Somehow, the huge box felt as if it had been packed with great care and lots of good wishes.

For so many reasons we are thrilled to be part of an upcoming party called Malabrigo Day---in celebration of their 20 years doing business beautifully.

Now that you've added this party on October 25 to your calendar---because it's sure to be a great afternoon here---let me tell you a bit about what you can expect.

First and foremost, we're launching a completely new yarn by Malabrigo and you will be able to get your hands on it and test drive it a bit while you're here. If I told you any more than that, I'd be in deep doodoo, but at least you know to prepare yourself for amazingness.

Also, we're calling all Malabrigo knitters and crocheters to stop in. And bring the goods. If you, like Kelly, knit a hat for your sweetheart using Malabrigo Worsted 19 years ago and they still wear it, we would love to see that battered and beloved hat. If you made something with any Malabrigo yarn (purchased anywhere) at the shop, please wear it in on October 25. We would love to see the old and the new, the felted and the stretched out, the tattered and the pristine. And anyone who brings/wears an item made from any Malabrigo yarn will be entered to win a prize.

But don't worry if you don't have Malabrigo to wear. There will be drawings for other prizes as well. We got you!

If you've not yet discovered Malabrigo Yarns, stop in and let us introduce you! In either case, we hope to see you on October 25 between noon and 4pm.
