Well, THAT Was Fun!

“Life is kind of like a party. You invite a lot of people, some leave early, some stay all night, some laugh with you, some laugh at you, and some show up really late. But in the end, after the fun, there are a few who stay to help you clean up the mess. And most of the time, they aren't even the ones who made the mess. These people are your true friends in life.

Dear One,

What a happy, lovely time was had on Local Yarn Shop Day, this past Saturday! I loved the clusters of people inspiring one another, the bursts of laughter, and the general level of happy energy throughout the shop. It was heartwarming to see old friends and acquaintances bump into one another and take time to really catch up. And, as the day settled into a calmer pace, I treasured the conversations I got to have with people as they caught their breath.

If you missed it, know that we missed having your dear self in the shop.

If you're curious about what you missed, there are still limited quantities of our LYS offerings available. Check them out below:

First off, the multi-talented Crystal Hiatt of Factory Girl Fiber was in the house, talking to everyone about her kits: two colorways, two fabulous shawl patterns included in each kit, a full skein of hand-dyed fingering (437 yards) + three playfully coordinating mini skeins (87 yards each). And the yarn itself? A highly touchable blend of 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon. Pictured is the Twilight Bloom set. We still have a few of each colorway available.

Secondly, we received a brand new release from MBF Bags: the Field Stone Tone. Perfect for a small project...or lunch...or whatever amazingness you want to carry around on any given day. It's gently insulated to make it stand proudly wherever you put it. It has a sweet zippered pocket inside, so you won't lose all of your stitchmarkers, and---as usual---her fabric choices are stellar. As I write, there are five remaining in house. This one is named Yarn Rainbow and, as with all of these locally-made beauties, it's one-of-a-kind.

On Saturday, we also brought three Spun Right Round mini-skein sets out into the sunshine! All three are lovely, but this one---Straw Flowers---has stolen my heart. The dyers suggest using the ten (TEN!) 87 yard skeins of superwash merino for the Venation Shawl by Ambah O'Brien. And that's a fine idea, for sure. But if you're not in a shawl-y mood, don't scroll past this set. It feels like it would be fun for socks, or color work, or a stunner of a child's sweater...or whatever you can dream up to create from 870 yards of hand-dyed fingering weight yarn.

I know I need to stop barraging you with things, but just one more: We are running a Ranunc-along for the month of May: join the fun and knit the Ranunculus by Midori Hirose! We have an abundance of inspirational samples in the shop, if you are able to stop by.

We have 20 Ranunculus knitters signed up so far and I'm sure there are more waiting in the wings...since I am one of them. ; )

We've made it extra easy to jump in by creating Ranunculus Bundles. They'll help narrow down sizing and yarn choices beautifully. And there's something reassuring about the fact that a Yarnologist has knit this very sweater with these very yarns and it has turned out beautifully.

But also feel free to use something lovely you may have on hand. It's a very welcoming pattern and I've seen it worked with fingering+lace mohair/silk (like the one in the photo), worsted weight wool, and everything in-between.

Phew! That was like drinking from a firehose, wasn't it? And, if you were at the shop and saw/touched/drooled on each of these things, please forgive the replay. But we kept it all (mostly) under wraps for so long that it felt good to share the bounty with you. I hope something tempts you into a new summer project!

Warmly,

Gaby
