Such Abundance!
"I am not bound for any public place, but for ground of my own where I have planted vines and orchard trees, and in the heat of the day climbed up into the healing shadow of the woods."
Dear One,
I am just now realizing how surrounded I am by the bounty of September in Minnesota. True, it happens each and every year, but I continue to be amazed. I must have the memory of a goldfish.
For instance, I'm sure that the apple tree outside my bedroom window was loaded with hopeful, little green apples five minutes ago. And this morning it startled me with the intensity and size of its red fruit. Somebody should get out there and collect those beauties before the deer stretch up to take a bite out of each one.
And don't even get me started on tomatoes. I've given up vegetable gardening completely and I'm STILL up to my armpits in tomatoes!
The shop feels similarly ripe and plentiful. Shelves are full, bins are near bursting--and everything is asking to be touched. Customers who walk in singing, "Just looking!" are seen walking out with sweater quantities of yarn tucked into shopping bags. The bounty is pretty darned irresistible.
Just this week, Andrea Mowry released a new pattern for the Butter Vest. It's designed to be knit with Cotton Lino by The Wandering Flock...which means it will be a fabulous piece for autumn. Cotton Lino is a season-straddling blend of organic cotton/mulberry silk/linen/baby alpaca in a Sport/DK weight. In other words this great vest can be worn over a long sleeved shirt in the morning and will look amazing when you strip down to just the sleeveless by piece afternoon! Because a twenty degree temperature change is pretty standard around here.
Cotton Lino is lovely stuff---both to work with and to wear. I picked the image of the Poppy color (which is even brighter coral in person) because it seemed seasonally appropriate, but there's a great Navy, a gentle oatmeal-ish Sand color, a blushy Petal pink, and several more options to take a look at. We even have a few skeins of the Butter color that Andrea used...but chart your own course!
May your day, your week, your month be bountiful. And not simply in the someone-left-squash-on-the-porch sort of way. Let us also appreciate the bounty friendships, of space and light, of quietude.
Warmly,
Gaby
