Malabrigo Day is Saturday!
“Writing and reading decrease our sense of isolation. They deepen and widen and expand our sense of life: they feed the soul. When writers make us shake our heads with the exactness of their prose and their truths, and even make us laugh about ourselves or life, our buoyancy is restored. We are given a shot at dancing with, or at least clapping along with, the absurdity of life, instead of being squashed by it over and over again. It's like singing on a boat during a terrible storm at sea. You can't stop the raging storm, but singing can change the hearts and spirits of the people who are together on that ship.”
Dear One,
I have been traveling recently and it feels really, really good to be back in the shop. Please don't tell my travel buddy, and don't get me wrong---the travel was fabulous---but this is the time of year when I want to be surrounded by fiber and warmth and color! I'm happily tucked in as I write this, surrounded by the brilliance of the Yarnologists and the inspiration of everything in the shop.
Traveling always messes with my fairly fragile sense of the current day/week/month...so you'll not be shocked to hear that I can hardly believe it's October, much less that MALABRIGO DAY IS THIS SATURDAY. Yes, that day when we celebrate all things Malabrigo is almost here!
OF COURSE Malabrigo is releasing a new yarn for the occasion. And OF COURSE we cannot officially launch it until October 24. But I'm up here typing away in my office/nest. And someone has (foolishly) left the new yarn right next to me. So I may have opened the box and taken a skein out...
You didn't hear it from me, but this new yarn is quite lovely. I keep stopping to pet it. Would it be revealing too much to say that I'm pretty sure there's a bit of silk involved? Probably too much info? Okay, please disregard this entire paragraph.
I'm really excited to see you on Saturday and there are a few things to know before you get here:
1. During our Saturday hours (noon to 4p) there is a Trick-or-Treat event going on downtown. In order to keep the kids safe, Third Street will be closed to traffic. We're sorry to take away the option of parking on Third Street, but delighted to offer lots of parking in our back alley and on all of the side streets. And if you're shopping online, you're already on top of it!
2. As is the case during most of our busy events, we will be unable to wind your twisted hanks on Saturday. Please leave them with us if you can, and we will get them wound the following week. If you're ordering online, we welcome you to add "please wind" in the order notes and allow one extra day for your package to arrive.
3. Prize drawings (you knew there would be prizes!) will take place at 1p, 2p, and 3p to include those who've arrived in the previous hour. The ticket jar will be refreshed after each drawing and you must be present to win.
I can hardly wait to see you this Saturday. The shop is looking full and fabulous and you're sure to find yarns and kits that are new to you. This is a perfect day to visit a Local Yarn Shop---wherever you may find yourself on Saturday, October 24.
Warmly,
Gaby
