Dipping a Toe Into Summer
“And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.”
Dear One,
I have mis-read the signs of whatever season we are currently experiencing so many times that I don't trust myself anymore. I began washing the winter coats and hats...only to realize we needed to wear them again a few days later. I then power-washed the porch furniture and watched in horror as a cold dusty wind blew in the following week and undid all of my efforts. I recently started the process of washing, blocking, and stashing all of my wooliest sweaters away for their summer holiday...and interrupted that lovely spring tradition in order to wear the cozy wool to work. In May.
But I think we may be turning a corner.
And so, with fingers crossed and a hopeful heart, I am choosing a linen yarn for my next project. I hope I'm not jinxing the whole summer...
I'm drawn to this beautiful blue-gray (Granite) in Isager Trio 2 (50% linen/30% cotton/20% lyocell). It seems like it's a shade that will "present" as cool and comfortable, even when the temp is too high to be actually cool and comfortable. But the color array is strong and you're going to want to take a look at every single one.
I'm going to use it to make the Ranunculus by Midori Hirose as part of Yarnology's ongoing Ranunc-along event this month. (Yes, it's the middle of the month and, yes, I haven't started yet. Please feel welcome to be a late joiner along with me!)
If I weren't committed to the Ranunculus, I might head off in the direction of the Night and Day Cowl. It becomes a perfect summer piece when created from this linen blend and we have bundles available online, to make it super easy.
Here is me wearing the Isager Trio 2 shop sample in color Green Tea. It's light and airy and perfect over a tee or tank or button-down. If you want a thicker version---which doesn't require another piece underneath---double the yarn and you've still got a cool linen top, but in a slightly heavier weight!
Choose your color bundle here and join the Ranunc-along here!
Is it really, truly summer in southern Minnesota? Probably not quite. But it's 75 and sunny as I type this, so I am encouraged to look summer-ward.
I hope that, wherever you are, you're feeling the pull of longer, warmer days and the projects that suit them. Because summer can't be all gardening and barbecuing and beach reads...summer cries out for a bit of warm weather making as well!
Gaby
