“I could party in a cardboard box with people who are funny and don't care. For me, it's really about who I surround myself with, so I just try to always be with hilarious people.”
Dear One,
We have reached my favorite time of year at the yarn shop. It's the season when boxes filled with glorious yarns arrive through the back door almost every day. I'm pretty sure our UPS and FedEx drivers are significantly less fond of this time of year---for although yarn is lightweight, the boxes are typically huge and can be tricky to fit through the door. Especially when six arrive at once.
Because of the cornucopia of choices available at the shop, this is precisely the time of year when I'm inspired to plan my upcoming sweater knitting. I love to plan two garments for knitting over the course of the winter (and, let's be honest, into the early spring). Sometimes they both get done, sometimes just one. It depends on the complexity of the pattern...and my ability to focus and settle on the task at hand.
We just got a wonderful restock of Kelbourne's Lucky Tweed and are expecting a bunch of Blue Sky Woolstok any minute. Both are sweater-y favorites of mine and maybe yours, too.
Of course, there is the nagging detail that I am one sleeve away from finishing a sweater that I really look forward to wearing...
This is the Community Cozy by Alecia Plummer and it has been a joy to knit...except for that darned second sleeve. The yarn is Manchelopis by WoolDreamers and is "un-spun". This means it has no twist or ply to make it strong (I have broken the strand a few times and needed to "spit splice" it back together--which is quick and easy). And the unspun-ness also leaves me with a sweater which is almost weightless on my lap as I hold it.
It's going to be a lovely garment to wear as soon as the temps drop!
As we ponder our winter projects, let's not forget that Yarnology's annual Sweater Challenge kicks off January 1 and runs through the end of February. Bring any straggling Gift Cards in (cards with bar codes expire October 31) and make a plan for your upcoming knit and/or crochet projects!
See you there,
Gaby
