Let's Knit Some Hope
“Everyone has the obligation to push back on the temptation to despair."
Dear One,
Ah, Daylight Savings Time. You sly little minx. You charm me with more sunlight at the end of the day...but I am not hungry at dinner time and I am not sleepy when I want to be. I lie in bed at this time I call bedtime and think too many thoughts.
Also, DST, the darkness in the morning makes me want to curl back into my warm bed. My body does not believe the numbers on the clock. And why should it? That clock has tricked us in the past. The cat is, of course, having none of this new schedule. But did she believe in the old schedule? It was hard to tell.
If I lure myself out of bed at the "new time" with amazing coffee and irresistible knitting, this adjustment will work its way into my body and brain eventually. But the coffee had better be truly amazing (I'm talking to you, Nespresso) and the knitting had better be fun.
We have just restocked what is possibly the most happy yarn I know: Ciao by Jody Long. It's superwash extrafine merino in a DK weight, so it's perfect for almost any DK project. And LOOK AT THESE COLORS! They're practically dancing on their hooks.
I decided to take a photo of some of the brights, but there are also pastels, jewel tones, and neutrals. Whatever your little sleep-deprived heart desires. Click here to check them all out.
The yarn itself has a twist that makes it feel springy and lush. I keep coming upon people in the shop squeezing these charming "bagels" of merino...so they're also fidget devices, if you need them to be! In my mind's eye I'm picturing a toddler sweater. Or a bandana cowl. Or a striped hat...
What do you think of the Color Block Beanie by Claire Borchardt? It's not quite stripey, but I love it's simplicity and grace. It feels like it would look great on anyone. And, while we here in Minnesota are having some days where we don't need jackets or hats...we are definitely still in the season where hats are necessary and good on a lot of days.
Plus, I love the portability and instant gratification of a hat on the needles or hook. It's a coffee shop project, a dentist office project, an I-cannot-sleep-quite-yet project.
Let us try hard not to be dragged down. Not by the time change, not by the news, not by the on-again-off-again teasing of March weather. Let us grab some playful colors and make great stuff.
Because, if we are going to "push back on the temptation to despair", we'd better keep a few projects close at hand.
Always Warmly,
Gaby
