Hold On Tightly

"Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August."

Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty

Dear One,

I imagine that you, like me, are already receiving marketing emails about autumnal home decor and recipes and yarny projects. Yesterday I made the mistake of walking through the seasonal area at Target and...you guessed it...full to the brim with school supplies. Later in the same day I was haunted by Halloween decor at Costco. Aack!

At the risk of alienating you, should you be one of the early bird-types, I'm going to speak up for hanging onto summer. It is, after all, still July. We have lots more sweet corn to eat, extensive amounts of sweaty yard work to do, and many more perfect summer nights on the deck to enjoy. Am I right?

In the spirit of enjoying full-on summer, I have a confession to make. I have never knitted a summery short-sleeved sweater. For some reason, my past knitting has gone from one extreme of cozy, long-sleeved things straight to the other extreme of sleeveless linen or cotton things. No middle ground.

But a fun and fabulous customer was in the shop this week and we both fell in love with this sweet, little number--the Easy Eyelet Yoke Lite Sweater by Knitatude. The sleeves are perfect, the amount of detail seems spot on, and there's a new DK-weight yarn in the shop that's calling to me...

It's Palmer's new Silk DK: an exquisite blend of 85% Merino and 15% Mulberry Silk. Because it's from Palmer, you know the colors are sorbet gorgeous. And silk content means anything we make from it will be both comfortable and elegant. I'll keep you posted on my color choice...I'm deciding between Peony and Soft Lichen. I think.

Here's to summer and enjoying it to the fullest extent possible. I hope you join me in my short-sleeved sweater adventure, or find the summer project that suits you!

And let's not rush out and buy autumn-y supplies. We'll enjoy that gorgeous season when it gets here.

Cheers,

Gaby
