Guaranteed Calm. No Kidding.

"Solitude can be a much-to-be-desired condition. Not only is it acceptable to be alone, at times it is positively to be wished for…In the silence, we listen to ourselves. Then we ask questions of ourselves. We describe ourselves to ourselves, and in the quietude, we may even hear the voice of God."

Dear One,

As a Blizzard Warning is announced for southern Minnesota and normal people are making sure they have cereal and toilet paper, I am making sure I have an extra knitting project "stockpiled". Just in case. You know I'm working on a sweater--because I am me--but I also scurried around the shop yesterday, looking for a back-up project.

And storm or no storm, I often appreciate having a smaller, simpler project to work on when I need to take a break from my primary focus.

This is where a project like the Solitude Cowl by Factory Girl Designs steps into the room and charms everyone in sight. It's fun, it's gorgeous, and it provides a whole lot more instant gratification than a full-on garment.

All it requires are 324 yards of DK weight yarn and a US 5 24" circular.

Perhaps you have a skein or two of DK eagerly waiting in your stash...but look at these color combos! I think you might need to choose your own array.

And, if you're considering that path, check out these charming mini-skeins from Palmer Yarn Company. They're 87 yards of sturdy DK (75% superwash merino/25% nylon) dyed to coordinate with the standard Palmer skeins. We initially brought them into the shop for heels and toes of socks. And then people started buying them to trim sweet sweaters and as dashes of color in granny squares. But what if they weren't the accent yarn. What if they were the only yarn?

Six of them--and there are far more colors than I've shown you here--would make a totally-unique-to-you Solitude Cowl. Without a bunch of yarn left over! Mic drop, right?

It's great that we're already plotting ways to use Palmer Yarn Company's lovely yarns...because now is also the time to sign up for a fresh, new 3-month Palmer DK Yarn Club experience! This only happens once a quarter and it's an opportunity you don't want to miss.

I, who don't especially like surprises, am really glad I signed up for this one. Each month I am blown away by another hand-dyed skein. Even though I am first and foremost a sweater knitter, I'm finding fun ways to use these single-skein wonders. January's yarn became the colorwork for a pullover sweater. February's is a hat that I will wear for many winters to come. The March color just arrived, so it's still being interviewed. But you get the idea.

Click here for more info on a 3-month club membership. It might be just your cup of tea.

Warmly,

Gaby

P.S. There's a Maker's Morning opportunity in about ten days. If you have a free Saturday morning and crave a bit of time with other makers, please sign up here. We'd love to see you!
