Get What You Need
“A #2 pencil and a dream can take you anywhere.
Dear One,
It is that time of year.
I refer not to sweet corn season, tomato season, or vacation season---although each of those is also taking place right now. I'm talking about the season when families everywhere are trying frantically to find all of the school supplies on "the list". Particular pencils, super-specific notebooks, and the precise brand of glue sticks that have been deemed sacred.
And even though my days of coaxing summer-infused kids to focus on school supplies are long over, I still feel a sort of magnetic pull to stock up. I crave fresh Ticonderoga pencils and academic-year planners and maybe a pack of index cards or two.
But I need none of these things. So I channel my school supply energy in another direction.
The grown-up version of the coolest lunchbox in class has got to be the Swedish Hinza Tote. I actually use one for my laptop/lunch/paperwork and another to keep my knitting project safe.
This waterproof, tough-as-nails carry-all is the #2 pencil of the adult world: a foundational supply that you probably need extras of. It's a Swedish design that's been unchanged since 1960. Because when something works, you don't mess with it.
My favorite is the standard size (14" wide at bottom and 17" at top, 6" at bottom to 8" wide at top, 10" tall with a 6.5" handle). Because I can fit so much inside!
But we also stock the mini size (12.5" Long, 6" wide, 8.5" tall with a 6.5" handle). It's very popular---especially for those who carry smaller projects. Or perhaps kittens.
You'll love the color array, too. There's definitely a hue that will call out to you personally.
Just to make you laugh, here is a fairly unplanned photo of the Yarnologists' Hinza Tote line-up on a busy day at the shop. We really do use them for everything!
I think the instinct to replenish your supplies for the upcoming season is a good one. Listen to it. Whether it's leading you to a plentitude of produce from the Farmers Market, a pile of fresh books from the local bookseller, or an armful of yarn for your next project, the message is the same: crisper, more productive days are coming. Gather what you'll need.
Cheers,
Gaby
