Gentle Summer Thoughts

"Be patient with yourself. Self-growth is tender; it's holy ground. There's no greater investment."

Stephen Covey

Dear One,

Welcome to the blueberry-rich part of the summer! Where you are, it may be peach season...or you might be up to your armpits in tomatoes. I'm certain that you are surrounded by something ripe and fabulous and plentiful, wherever you're hanging out this summer.

I notice, however, that the very abundance that makes summer fabulous can also stress me out. Faced with the five pounds of blueberries I've just picked at the local pick-your-own farm (well, five pounds minus the two huge handfuls immediately eaten), I have been known to begin fretting about how to make them into syrup or muffins or pie while they're at their peak.

Seriously? Can I just not worry about what Betty Crocker would have done and enjoy the fact that I am lucky to have sun-warmed blueberries in my house?

And let's apply that same standard to summer knitting.

I know many of you wish you could be here for our special event with Crystal Hiatt of Factory Girl Design on Thursday evening, but the seats sold out quickly.

To cheer you, let me propose a consolation project! Here is Kelly wearing Crystal's Third Street Cowl, knit with a strand of hand-dyed sport or DK weight yarn AND a strand of lace weight suri alpaca/silk.

You may have similar yarns lurking in your stash...or we have bundles from Fiber MacGyver that are just the ticket for this project. The sample is knit using the Ballerina bundle and we have several other color choices to pick from.

It strikes me as the perfect project for this part of the summer.

Let's promise one another to simply eat the blueberries, let the peach juice run down our chins, and knit or crochet the small, lovely piece that pleases us.

Warmly,

Gaby

P.S. Remember the shop is closed to the public this Thursday from 4-6pm for our private event!
