Celebrate Every Little Thing

“We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.”

Dear One,
I am a serial list-maker. Often, this is a helpful attribute. Sometimes it is not. Sometimes I cross one thing off my list and move directly onto another task without even taking a breath. Are you picturing yourself doing the same thing?
Some of the wisest, dearest advice I've ever gotten was from a Life Coach who didn't even know me. We spent a short hour together and she told me something that stopped me in my tracks (and brought tears to my eyes). She told me to be careful about moving onto the next task without celebrating the completion of the last one. She told me to remember to acknowledge the work and to be joyous about its completion. Because without that step, life could become one very long to-do list.
I don't always remember to follow that wise woman's advice, but today it's on my mind and in my heart.
TaDa! Today I celebrate the completion of my Favorite Flannel Sweater---knitted in the happiest yarn I could find: Noro Saiun. It's been a joy to knit over the past couple of months and I look forward to wearing it as soon as it is dry after a gentle blocking.
I have a LOT of handmade sweaters in my closet. My fellow Yarnologists would tell you--accurately--that many of them are gray. And while I love each gray cardigan and pullover, none of them makes my heart sing like this one. I am sure that, like children, we are not supposed to have favorites. So let's keep it between us, okay?
I used color 1-Yuki for my sweater, but I think if I were to make it again, I'd pick this one: color 6-Sori. Although, ask me tomorrow and I may be leaning toward another beautiful Saiun color. They are all amazing.
I made size D (the fourth size) in order to have some positive ease and from my original 3 balls, I have 100g remaining. So a larger size would definitely have been possible--without purchasing another ball.

I think it's really easy to get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to celebrate the milestones---especially the small ones. I encourage you to become more aware of the value found in taking a moment, a deep breath, a skip down the sidewalk, a joyous song belted out in your car--whatever serves to mark a happy occasion for you. Celebrate with intention, my friend.
Warmly,
Gaby
P.S. I know it's not until the end of the month, but mark your calendar for Local Yarn Shop Day--Saturday, April 26. Wherever you may be, it's a day to visit the nearest LYS and show them some love. Because life is better with yarn shops in it!
