A Few of Our Favorite Things

"I love the rebelliousness of snail mail, and I love anything that can arrive with a postage stamp. There's something about that person's breath and hands on the letter."

Diane Lane

Dear One,

Call me weird, but I get all excited when it's my turn to package on-line orders for shipment from the shop. I enjoy seeing what a person has chosen...and sometimes make up a scenario in my head regarding how they will use the items in the box. I love dusting off old Tetris skills to find just the right box (usually re-used from incoming merch) and leave as little unoccupied space as possible.

But my favorite part of shipping is the packing itself. I love nestling each skein of yarn, each tool, each project bag, each book into a tissue-lined box and making sure all is secure and protected. And then, dear friend, the icing on the cake: the tiny note.

The note is a chance to mention what I appreciate about the products in the box. Maybe I've made a sweater with that particular yarn. Maybe the color strikes me beautiful. Maybe the fiber is one i'm anxious to try in the near future. In every case, the note is a chance to say thank you.

I think we can all use an unexpected thank you arriving in our mailbox. Right?

So, even if you live within driving distance, I suggest that---every once in a while---you order a package to be shipped from us to you. It gives us a chance to put into writing some of the things we say when you visit us in person. And we love reminding you of how lovely you are to us.

If you cannot decide on a specific yarn, but want to place an order (just to get a sweet note from a Yarnologist), how about a project bag? We have many to drool over, but this new Sierra Project Tote from our friends at Maika seems like a winner on all fronts: pockets on the outside, pockets on the inside, comfy handles, and recycled canvas. It feels like your favorite gardening tote and your best farmers market bag had a love child.

Whether you get surpises shipped from us or not, please know that you are one of our favorites. We appreciate your love of things yarn-related, we love hearing about the clever projects you have in the works, we are thrilled to see your face when you come to visit.

Thanks for being you,

Gaby
