FAQ's for Yarnology Summer Retreat 2027

What is the main focus or theme of this retreat? 

Creativity, connection, and fiber arts! This retreat is an excellent opportunity to work on your own knitting, crochet, embroidery or drop spindle project in a relaxing atmosphere. 

Who is the retreat designed for? Do I need prior experience?

The retreat is designed for experienced crafters of all levels. Formal instruction will not be provided as part of this retreat.

What are the dates, locations and hours of the retreat?

• Friday, July 16, 2027 5 - 9pm at Yarnology (65 East Third Street, Winona, MN)

• Saturday, July 17, 2027 9am - 9pm at the Winona County Historical Society (106 Johnson Street, Winona MN)

• Sunday, July 18, 2027 9am-3pm at Yarnology,

What is included in the price of the retreat?

 The retreat fee provides private crafting, social space and three meals: Friday evening, Saturday lunch and Sunday lunch. 

It also includes an exclusive event with Minnesota designer, a fabulous goodie bag, fun door prizes and more.

Are activities mandatory?

No, activities are not mandatory and attendees can come and go as they please.

How many people will be attending?  

The retreat is limited to 28 attendees.

Can you accommodate specific dietary needs, food allergies, or preferences?
Yes, following registration, Yarnology will be in touch to gather information about dietary needs.

Is the venue accessible for individuals with limited mobility?

Winona Historical Society provides: All-terrain wheelchairs, automatic/power-assist doors, companion restrooms, wheelchair accessible elevator, wheelchair accessible entrance, wheelchair accessible parking, wheelchair accessible restrooms, wheelchair accessible seating, wheelchair-friendly inside walkways.

Yarnology is wheelchair accessible on 3rd Street. A Wheelchair accessible bathroom is located on the main floor, as is most of the yarn. We're happy to gather yarn and other items for you if you're unable to climb stairs. Please reach out with specific concerns.

Will any travel or transportation be provided?

All travel to and from the venues is the responsibility of the attendee.

What airport do you recommend?

There are three area airports. The closest is the Lacrosse Airport (LSE), approximately 20 miles southeast of Winona. The Rochester (RST) airport is approximately 50 miles to the west. The Minneapolis airport (MSP) is located 120 miles northwest of Winona. 

Is there bus or train service to Winona?

Yes, Greyhound and Amtrak serve Winona. 

Is there parking?

Public street and lot parking are free and available in downtown Winona. 

What are the lodging recommendations for the retreat? 
Lodging is booked by you and is not included in the retreat fee. A list of lodging options can be found at https://visitwinona.com. 

Downtown options include Hotel 44 North, the Carriage House Bed & Breakfast and several Airbnb and VRBO one and two bedroom suites.

 
The following hotels are just a short drive from the east or west side of town: Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Fairfield Inn & Suites, AmericInn, The Plaza Hotel & Suites, Days Inn, Express Suites Riverport, and Super 8.

Is there camping?
Camping can be found at Prairie Island Campground.

Is Wi-Fi available at the venue?
Yes, free Wi-Fi is available at both locations.

What is the seating/chairs like at Winona Historical Society?
Typical folding chairs and tables are provided for crafting. Each attendee will have approximately 36” of table space.

Will the lighting be bright enough to craft?
Yes, both Winona Historical Society and Yarnology have bright general lighting. If you prefer a specific task light, please bring a battery powered light.

Will each location be air conditioned?
Yes, both locations are climate controlled.

Are meals included in the cost of the retreat?
Three meals are included: Friday evening, Saturday lunch and Sunday lunch. All other meals are the responsibility of the attendee. 

Are drinks and snacks provided between meals, or should I bring my own? 
No outside food or drinks are allowed at the Winona Historical Society. Water, a variety of sodas, coffee, tea and snacks will be provided. 

Is alcohol permitted or provided at the retreat? 
Yarnology will have alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to choose from on Friday evening. No alcohol is allowed at the Winona County Historical Society.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?
$200 will be refunded if an alternate attendee is found; otherwise, all fees are non-refundable. In the event the retreat sells out we'll keep a waitlist. 

What happens if the organizers have to cancel or postpone the event? 
If Yarnology must cancel the event, a full refund of $225 will be provided to attendees.
